About Us

We specialise in sustainable native timber and consider ourselves New Zealand’s leading native recovery timber experts focusing on river salvaged Tōtara, Rimū, Matai, Kahikatea, Tawa and Black Maire.

The New Zealand Natural Timber Co. started with the purchase of a local Whangarei sawmill (Whattatiri Sawmills) in 2009. Traditionally cutting shelterbelt and unwanted Macrocarpa and Eucalyptus trees for the local region, the company quickly grew with demand to supply timber across New Zealand. The New Zealand Natural Timber Co. soon recognised a greater demand for not only Macrocarpa and Eucalyptus, but a wide variety of species of native, exotic and imported timbers that cater for a wide range of applications particularly for the architectural, residential and commercial markets.

We are focused on timber most commonly viewed as difficult to source, rare or which generally fall outside the mainstream timber market. The New Zealand Natural Timber Co. have great interest in working in collaboration with architects, designers or home owners to create truly handcrafted and bespoke projects.

We have achieved specification in many of New Zealand’s most iconic architectural projects, and continue to gain recognition amongst the architectural community as a ‘go to’ sustainable timber merchant with the experience and technical knowledge pertaining to a wide range of species available.
